Southern Blvd Reconstruction Phase IIA - Nicklaus Channel is one of three phases for Southern Blvd from Golf Course Rd to Commercial Dr.  Phase IIA consists of reconstruction of the Nicklaus Channel at Southern Blvd, east of Nicklaus Dr. The project includes retaining walls, new box culverts and erosion control. The design is funded with City funds (approximately $1,050,000) and Federal funds (approximately $1,800,000). These funds include the cost for Southern Blvd Reconstruction Phase IIA (Nicklaus Channel) and Phases IIB & IIC (Golf Course Rd to Commercial Dr).

Status Log:

  • February 2026: All NMDOT project certifications received
  • December 2025: Coordination with NMDOT for project certification on-going -- Utility Certification requested
  • November 2025: Coordination with NMDOT for project certification on-going -- Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Certification received
  • October 2025: Coordination with NMDOT for project certification on-going -- Railroad Certification received and Right of Way Certification requested
  • September 2025: Coordinating with NMDOT on project certifications
  • August 2025:  Prepared and submitted project certification to NMDOT
  • June 2025: Completing Pre-Final (PS&E) plans for Phase IIA
  • April 2025: Finalizing Environmental Certification
  • March 2025: Resubmit Environmental documents
  • February 2025: Complete Right of Way acquisition for three parcels needed for Phase IIA
  • April 2023: Start Right of Way acquisition for three parcels needed for Phase IIA
  • September 2022: Additional Project Phasing - Phase IIB (Golf Course Rd to 24th St) and Phase IIC (24th St to Commercial Dr)
  • May 2022: Public meeting
  • April 2022: Complete 90% (Phase IIA & IIB)
  • November 2021: Public meeting
