Placing holds in Vega

If your branch does not have a title or it is not currently available, you have the ability to place a hold on the title and receive it from another branch.

  • Log in to your account. 
  • Search for the title and select the format you want from the rollup tab.
  • Select the Place Hold button.
  • Confirm pickup location. The pickup location will automatically default to your home library; however, you may choose a different pickup location.
  • A Request Successful message will appear when the hold is placed.
  • You will be contacted when your item is ready for pickup.

Freegal Music

Freegal Music offers free music and music videos in all genres and works with many devices.

  2. How do I get it?
    • To listen and download to a Windows PC or Mac, go to Freegal Music login with your library card and start browsing. 
    • To listen and download with an Android or Apple tablet or smartphone, install the Freegal Music app to your device via Google Play (Android), the Apple App Store (iOS).
    • To stream and download with Kindle Fire devices, install the Freegal Music® app through the Amazon Store. Freegal Music is supported on Kindle Fire 3rd generation and up.
    • Log into with your library card and start browsing.
  3. Loan limits and periods?
    • You will receive 5 tokens to download music and videos each week. Songs are 1 token and videos are 2.
    • Downloaded songs and videos are yours to keep.
    • You may also stream 5 hours of music per day.

Hoopla 

Hoopla is an innovative service that lets you access thousands of movies, television shows, music albums, eBooks, comics, and eAudiobooks. It's free and easy. All you need is a library card and a web browser, phone or tablet. All titles are available all the time and are returned automatically. You can find items in the app and in the library catalog.

  2. How do I get it?
    • Sign up for a Hoopla account. You will need to provide your current email address, create a password and have your library card number available. Select Rio Rancho Public Libraries under “Library Info.”
    • Browse, borrow and stream your favorite titles immediately on your PC or Mac computer.
    • Want to view on a tablet or smartphone? Install the hoopla app to your device via Google Play (Android), the Apple App Store (iOS), or the Amazon app store for the Kindle HDX. Sign up for an account if you haven’t already, and start browsing.
  3. Loan limits and periods?
    • The checkout limit is 5 items per calendar month (including any eBooks, comics, eAudiobooks, movies, and music).
    • eBooks and comics are available for 3 weeks.
    • eAudiobooks are available for 3 weeks.
    • Music albums are available for 7 days.
    • Video loan periods vary between 2 and 3 days.

Libby 

Libby offers free eBooks and eAudiobooks, including today's best sellers, and is the only platform that works with Kindle eReaders. The Libby App works with most devices and allows six checkouts. You can find items in the app and in the library catalog.

    • Many films have a 48 or 72 hour viewing period during which you can watch as many times as you like
    • Some series, like those from A&E and The History Channel, require only one play credit to access an entire season for one viewing period (48 or 72 hours) while other series require a play credit for each episode you watch

The Palace Project

The Palace Project is a library-centered suite of tools and services that will allow libraries to purchase, organize, and deliver ebooks and other digital content to their patrons quickly and easily while protecting patron privacy. The Palace Project includes a patron-facing app for accessing and reading ebooks, a circulation manager for libraries to manage the workflows and the patron experience, a marketplace to purchase new content for patron use, and a bookshelf of more than 15,000 open titles that are ready for access to all citizens now, at no cost to their library.  The Palace Project is accessible only through the app The Palace Project.

    • Download The Palace Project app
    • Search for your library and select New Mexico State Library
    • Input your library barcode and password/pin upon borrowing an ebook or e-audio title. (Note that this is not an actual library card with an actual library, but a Palace specific "library card" created when you sin up on the app.)
    • This information is stored and does not require library users to log in each time they access the app.

New Mexico Reads

New Mexico Reads is an eBook collection that primarily includes Southwest history and culture titles and fiction by New Mexico authors or set in the Southwest. New Mexico Reads also includes some books on racism in America, library and information science, national topics such as the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, and a selection of audiobooks. There is a small collection of books for children and tweens and teens.

  • How do I get it?
    • Go to https://nmreads.boundless.baker-taylor.com/ng/view/library
    • Choose Login (on the upper right)
    • The Login popup appears. Choose DON’T HAVE A USER NAME? CLICK HERE (bottom of the popup)
    • The Register pop-up appears and prompts you to ENTER THE FULL NAME OF YOUR STATE.
    • Enter “New Mexico” (as written, but without the quotes).
    • Enter your USER NAME (ignore the text “found on your library card”) and PASSWORD.
    • Select a security question and enter an answer.
    • Enter your display name and email address. (Note: these fields are optional but we strongly recommend that you add the information, in case you need to reset your password, to receive notices when any holds are available, etc.)
    • Click Register.
    • You can also download an app for reading on a mobile device. Visit your app store and search for the Boundless app. Once you have downloaded the app, search for New Mexico State Library and login.
  • Loan limits and periods?
    • You can check out up to five books at a time.
    • The checkout-period is 21 days. 
    • Renewals are allowed if there are no holds.
