Indoor Rebates

The Indoor Rebate Program is designed to give back to Rio Rancho residents who replace water guzzling toilets and clothes washers with qualifying high-efficiency models that use less water. There is also a rebate available for replacing an evaporative cooler thermostat that has a manual on/off switch with one that can be automatically programmed to help save water and electricity. The City also offers a rebate for switching from an evaporative/swamp cooler to refrigerated air. The refrigerated air rebate requires pre-approval.


Indoor Rebates Available: 

  • High-Efficiency Clothes Washer- qualifying washers will receive a water bill credit of $100.00. High-efficiency clothes washers must have an Integrated Water factor (IWF) of 3.2 or lower. Click on the link to see a list of Qualifying Clothes Washers.  
  • High-Efficiency Toilets- qualifying toilets will receive a water bill credit of $100.00 per toilet (max 2). HE toilets must be EPA WaterSense compliant. Homes must have been built in 1996 or older to qualify. Click on the link to see a list of Qualifying Toilets. 
  • Programmable Evaporative Cooler Thermostats will receive a water bill credit of $30.00. Thermostats must be programmable, automatic and work only on evaporative/swamp coolers.  
  • Refrigerated Air- PRE-APPROVAL IS REQUIRED! You must contact the Water Conservation Office at 505-896-8715 or 505-896-8737 BEFORE you begin your project. This rebate is for residents switching from evaporative/swamp coolers to refrigerated air. Those who qualify and are approved will receive a $1500 credit on their water bill.

To Apply for HE Washer, HE Toilet or Evaporative Cooler Thermostat Rebate:

  1. Read the Terms and Conditions. If you feel you qualify, fill out the application.  Indoor Rebate application w/ Terms and Conditions
  2. Email or mail the completed application along with a copy of your itemized receipt to:

  1. The completed application form and itemized receipt must be received within 90 calendar days from the purchase date.
  2. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
  3. Please allow up to 90 business days for your completed application to be reviewed and processed and for your credit to reflect on your water bill.

To Apply for the Refrigerated Air Rebate:

  1. Call 505-896-8715 or 505-896-8737 before beginning the conversion. Pre-approval is required and your active evaporative/swamp cooler must still be installed during the pre-approval process.
  2. The federal government also offers a tax credit for those switching to energy-efficient cooling systems. Please visit the IRS website https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/home-energy-tax-credits to apply for the federal tax credit.
