FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Question 1. What is the City of Rio Rancho’s Automated Speed Enforcement Program?
This is a traffic safety program in which City of Rio Rancho utilizes state-of-the-art digital cameras and violation detection systems for the purpose of decreasing violations of the traffic control regulations and reducing collisions. Speed cameras have been proven to be effective in reducing crashes, as well as pedestrian related accidents. Municipalities using this system consistently report safer roads with fewer collisions.
Question 2. What is the fine?
A speed violation in the City of Rio Rancho is $100.00. There is a $25 late fee applied to the STOP Fine Notice if defaulted on.
Question 3. Will I get any points on my driving record or will my insurance rate be affected?
No, this STOP Fine Notice is not considered a "moving violation". It is a civil citation holding the registered owner or lessee responsible for the violation (similar to a parking ticket). No points can be assessed for this violation and it will not raise your insurance rates.
Question 4. What if the registered owner was not driving the vehicle at the time of the violation?
The owner of the vehicle shall be responsible for this STOP Fine Notice, unless they submit a sworn statement to rebut the presumption that you were driving the vehicle at the time of the violation. Please review the Nomination Affidavit for common defenses allowable. These reasons include, but are not limited to, the following: vehicle was sold at time of violation; vehicle was stolen at time of violation; vehicle is a leased or rental vehicle and vehicle was in possession of lessee or renter at time of violation; vehicle was issued a citation by the police for the same offense; vehicle was part of a funeral procession; vehicle was in the care, custody, or control of another person; or a DMV error occurred. A copy of the Nomination Affidavit can be downloaded from www.ViolationInfo.com under Additional Resources.
Please sign and send the Nomination Affidavit (along with all supporting documentation) back before the Due Date on the front of your Notice. Please mail to City of Rio Rancho, NM, Safe Traffic Operations Program, P.O. Box 22091, Tempe, AZ 85285-2091, or email to Info@ViolationInfo.com, or fax to 1-480-990-4819. You will be notified of the outcome by mail. Keep in mind that providing an affidavit will NOT automatically result in the closure of this matter. If further information is required, you will be notified.
