RioCares and Medic-6

The RioCares and Medic-6 programs assist in serving the medical needs of our community.

RioCares is a medical community outreach program that helps alleviate the overuse of the 9-1-1 system and the overcrowding of hospital emergency rooms through education and communication. Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue crews provide these services via follow-up visits to patients.

rescueThe RioCares Program involves patient education and case management through a one-on-one relationship between the patient and the community paramedic with coordination with social services and the patient's medical providers.

Medic-6 is a dedicated rescue/ambulance staffed with a paramedic and an EMT who provide medical transport during daytime hours, Monday through Friday. Medic-6 is stationed out of Fire Station 6 in the Mariposa subdivision. The unit is available for transports and transfers throughout the City and, when not otherwise on a call, they can respond to medical emergencies in the Mariposa community.
The staff for these programs consists of two paramedics, one EMT, and an administrative coordinator. These four members of the Department are not trained firefighters and will only provide medical transport, medical case management, and related services.

These programs help keep the Rio Rancho community safer and healthier, while helping reduce the pressure on our 9-1-1 and hospital systems.
