What is the construction schedule for Southern Boulevard Phase 1?
Construction for the Southern Boulevard Phase 1 Project is scheduled to begin in September 2018 and is anticipated to be complete by September 2019. This schedule may vary depending on things like the weather and unanticipated underground utilities.
Will there be lane closures?
Project construction will accommodate vehicular traffic, local access, and adjacent businesses. The contractor will maintain one lane open in each direction during construction through all phases of the project. How will construction affect my business/residence?
The Contractor will work hard to minimize inconveniences to businesses and residents along Southern Boulevard during construction.
All businesses/residences will have access to their property during construction. The Contractor will use Business Access signs to provide information to traffic on how to get to businesses along the project. The contractor will work closely with business owners and residents to address concerns about access.
Businesses and residents will receive construction and traffic control updates through this website.
How do I apply for a Business Access Sign?
Business Owners on Southern Boulevard between NM 528 and Golf Course Road can apply for a Permit for Temporary Business Directional Signs. Applicants, please review the Policy before applying.

This timeslot allows for stakeholders, residents, and businesses to pose questions to the Project Team during a 1/2 hour meeting. The meeting will be at 3188 Southern Boulevard SE, Suite B, Rio Rancho, NM 87124 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Meeting dates are as follows:

How is this project funded?
This project is funded through City funds of $6,185,935, State funds of $375,000, Federal funds of $7,722,706, and County funds of $350,000.
Will bus routes be affected?
The ABQ Ride bus routes along Southern Boulevard (Route 251: ABQ-Rio Rancho/Railrunner Connection) will remain active during construction. Some temporary bus stop closures may be required during construction. Active bus stops along the project corridor can be found on our Current Road Work page.
Any traffic control impacts to school bus routes are being coordinated through Rio Rancho Public Schools - Transportation Division.
Will pedestrians be able to access the sidewalks/multi-use trail along Southern Boulevard?
Pedestrians will continue to have access to either the north sidewalk or the south multi-use trail during construction. Pedestrians should observe all detour signs.
Will emergency vehicles have adequate access?
Yes. Emergency vehicles still take priority over other vehicles traveling along Southern Boulevard and the rules of the road still apply. Drivers must yield to police and fire and move to the right.
What are the construction work hours?
The general work hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, this is a 365 calendar day contract, so night and weekend work may occur.
Will I hear construction noise from my business or residence?
Unfortunately, noise and construction go hand and hand. Construction noise should be limited to the general work hours of 7:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Some construction may be completed through night work.
Will our water and sewer utilities be shut off during the construction?
Utility interruptions will be unavoidable. You may experience planned water and sewer shut-offs usually lasting less than four hours at any one time. To minimize inconveniences, some planned water and sewer shut-offs can be scheduled after hours. You will receive at least 7 days of advance notification of any planned water or sewer shut-offs via door hangers.
Please note that emergencies may cause interruptions to water and sewer service for more than four hours. Any water or sewer emergencies will be noted on our Current Road Work page.
